Abstract

Capture of sturgeons in Caspian Sea was severely descending in recent decades that can extinct that fishes in near future. A complete sturgeon culture can aid stock restore in the Sea as well as protein production and foreign currency income. Sturgeon farming and propagation in capture condition is more complicated than the other fishes. Select of an appropriate species for culturing is particularly important. According to the late-age puberty in native sturgeons, it is better to culture early-age puberty besides the quality preservation, if you mean Caviar production, and use of fast weight-gain species is suitable for meat production.
In Iran, native sturgeon species of Caspian Sea (Beluga, Persian, Russian, Ship, Stellate and sterlet sturgeons) and also hybrid and nonnative species (Bester, Siberian sturgeons – regarding bio-environmental obligations) can be cultured regarding bioenvironmental obligations. Beluga is a faster growing sturgeon among the other pure and native Iran species. Generally, researches show the sturgeon farming in brackish water is better than the freshwater. But Sturgeons farming is current in non-coastal waters. Beluga, Siberian and Stellate sturgeons are three major farming species in Iran. Intensive sturgeon farming is an appropriate pathway for compensation of water resources shortage and increase of production.
